Many Operating systems are available as VDI files, these files are like a Virtual Hard Disk that contain all the data of the system. They can be opened by VirtualBox

How to use them

  • You need to install VirtualBox
  • Put the VDI file on your computer (C:\VM for example)
  • Open VirtualBox
  • Click "New"
  • Click "Next"
  • Click "New"
  • Type a name for your Virtual Machine (anything will do fine)
  • Select the type of your OS
  • Click "Next"
  • Choose the RAM size (note that it is better to keep this a low value, or you it may slow down your computer)
  • Click "Next"
  • Click "Existing..."
  • Click "Add" (the button is on the top)
  • Select the location of the VDI file and double click on it (C:\VM in my example)
  • Click "Select"
  • Click "Next"
  • Click "Finish"
  • The VirtualMachine is ready! Just click "Start" to open it!
