It should be very similar to the 32 bits version, but I will probably add the “ia32-libs” package, to improve compatibility with 32 bits applications…

It is with great joy that I announce that Super OS is at this momment (3rd of January, 2009) ranked number 1 on DistroWatch, in the 7 days span!

On the 1st of January I noticed it was #2, (Ubuntu was #1), but I never expected it to pass the “father” Ubuntu!

Of course it will go very down on the ranking once the release news of Super OS 9.10 gets old, but still… VERY impressing, in fact: freaking awesome!

Note: Keep in mind this ranking only counts the number of hits/vists the DistroWatch page about Super OS had (it does not count number of downloads nor the number of installations nor anything else)

PS: I did not used any “hacking tools” (nor anything similar to that) to get high rankings.

Finally the new Super OS 9.10 is out!

Here is a summary of the changes:

*Many software updated
*Added: File mounter, Google Chrome, Skype, GParted
*Removed: Moonlight support in  Opera, Wubi (due to a bug in ubuntu updates that “kill” wubi installations)

I am now back to the University so have have reduced my time developing software and “hacking”.

However, I still expect to make Super OS 9.10 and continue developing software. I can’t promise a specific date for the release of Super OS 9.10, however, if everything goes well, I should release it in the first half of November. Don’t expect anything revolutionary (besides the new Ubuntu changes), just the usual cocktail: Ubuntu + codecs + apps + a few tweaks like App Runner and stuff like that.

I hope to “play” with Ubuntu 9.10 next weekend and by then I should make some progress with Super OS 9.10.

More news will hopefully be available soon!

Update: The planned release date is now the second half of December (2009), sorry for the delay!

Update 2: The last schedule still stands! The ISO seems to be already finished and the release should be around 30/31 of December (2009)

Update 3: Super OS 9.10 is now out!

-The packages are now located on a new server (with more space for new software!)
-FIXED: The packages are now “signed” with a “key”, making them more tamper-resistant and secure
-FIXED: Users no longer see the warning “You are about to install software that can’t be authenticated!” (because packages are now signed)

There is nothing special you need to do to have this new repository, you just need to keep your system updated and since this new repository is already in the Super OS updates (the package is “super-os-repo” version 0.2) you will easily get the new repository.

Downsides:
-Closed source
-The license seems a bit restrictive
-little ads on the interface (see image above)
-Slower than the default Ubuntu viewer (evince)

Pros:
-Nothing special I could find, but it is always good to have more software available for Linux

I haven’t installed it yet, but it seems to be the real thing…
Sooner or later my PC will dual-boot Windows 7 and Super OS (now I have Windows Vista + Super OS 9.04)

There were also reports about the official hashes of the ISOs, something useful to make sure the ISOs were not contaminated with malware.

Update: This is the “ultimate edition” and you can install without serial/key. After 30 days it asks you to register, but it **seems** to keep working anyway
