About Super OS 9.10 [Updated x3]
October 29, 2009Hi people,
I know many are already waiting for Super OS 9.10, now that ubuntu 9.10 is out.
I am now back to the University so have have reduced my time developing software and “hacking”.
However, I still expect to make Super OS 9.10 and continue developing software. I can’t promise a specific date for the release of Super OS 9.10, however, if everything goes well, I should release it in the first half of November. Don’t expect anything revolutionary (besides the new Ubuntu changes), just the usual cocktail: Ubuntu + codecs + apps + a few tweaks like App Runner and stuff like that.
I hope to “play” with Ubuntu 9.10 next weekend and by then I should make some progress with Super OS 9.10.
More news will hopefully be available soon!
Cheers to all
Update: The planned release date is now the second half of December (2009), sorry for the delay!
Update 2: The last schedule still stands! The ISO seems to be already finished and the release should be around 30/31 of December (2009)
Update 3: Super OS 9.10 is now out!

i just bought an asus ul30 with win7 on it. can’t wait for your release to reinstall the laptop.
“Don’t expect anything revolutionary (besides the new Ubuntu changes), just the usual cocktail: Ubuntu + codecs + apps + a few tweaks like App Runner and stuff like that.”
this is exactly why we like it. i tried Ultimate Edition but it got really bloated after a few release.
thanks and keep up the good work

PLEASE FIX THE DSL CONNECTION BUG (SEEM TO AFFECT AND WI CONNECTION TOO) THAT IS INCLUDED “COURTESY” OF CANONICAL. THANKS SO MUCH
hacktolive says:
unfortunately I can fix that kind of bugs
November 1st, 2009 at 11:06 am
NOW ITS THE TIME. KOALA WORKS ONLY WITH IP’S. IF DSL BUG IS FIXED THEN, WITH CODECS AND STUFF SUPER OS WILL BE AGAIN NO’1 AS IT DESERVES TO BE.

Great work so far with SuperOS/Super Ubuntu!
Been using it through the last few releases, nice work.
A quick addition, if you please;
- Add support for WMV
- Add a 64-bit version of Super OS
- Add a Mouse Gestures extension to Firefox (eg; FireGestures)
- Add Adblock Plus addon to Firefox
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy
BTW: Here is one way of how you can add support for WMV;
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list \
–output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list &&
sudo apt-get -q update &&
sudo apt-get –yes -q –allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring &&
sudo apt-get -q update &&
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 &&
sudo apt-get install w32codecs &&
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
hacktolive says:
I think support for WMV files is already included, right? Regarding the x64 version… don’t expect it soon, since I do not have x64 hardware… Regarding the other software, I think users can easily add it, so there is no big benefit for most users. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi.
I have been using SuperOS for some time now and it has worked flawlwssly. I appreciate your efforts.
A question: are you going to use Grub2?
A info: last night I logged into SuperOS and the Ubuntu site (I assume) decided to update me and I took a chance, sure that it would break my system, unable to resist temptation however.
Took a long time and downloaded over 1400 packages and had me do 2 bug reports, xulrunner was removed and some other gnome and lib packages. But it is working great so far with non free still working and VirtualBox updated I belive.
So thanks for your work.
hacktolive says:
Yes, the new Super OS will use the new GRUB 2, just like Ubuntu 9.10

Best wishes with the Univarsity, keep up the good work.

Have you ever thought of making a SuperOS-KDE?
hacktolive says:
Yes, I have considered it, but… since I have limited time/resources to dedicate to software development I will probably not make a KDE version of Super OS…
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:24 am
thank you for your great work..
Our company has been using your product since Super Ubuntu 8.04.
Can you tell me how to remaster it ?
hacktolive says:
I have used reconstructor until now, but it seems they no longer offer a desktop application and moved to a paid web-service
I honestly haven’t yet made a remaster of Ubuntu 9.10, so I can’t tell how it’s made, but this guide should work: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization (Please note that good knowledge of the command line is essential)
Cheers

ABOUT THE DSL PROBLEM IN KOALA
It seems that someone fixed it. So if that package is included in koala (if they don’t manage to fix it by then) I guess super OS has no problems with upgrade to 9.10. I don’t know if that package can be downl as it is or included in repository.
https://edge.launchpad.net/~network-man … hive/trunk
Regards and many thanks.
November 3rd, 2009 at 6:26 am
Of course only you can test that network manager to find out if it’s ok.
Thanks again
November 4th, 2009 at 11:21 am
Please make a KDE version of superOS
hacktolive says:
Don’t expect that (soon), like I said, my time is limited and I have to focus on the essential stuff. But I would like to do something like that… Cheers
November 6th, 2009 at 8:30 pm
Magnificent work! SuperOS is the ONLY reason for people to change to linux…
I couldn’t wait and just installed 9.10…
Seems like a Commodore 64 compared to SuperOS, so I’ll be getting back to 9.04 and patiently wait for SuperOS 9.10
November 7th, 2009 at 3:04 am
First off keep up the awesome work that you are doing.
I know you include Wine with Super OS. But I was wondering if you plan to include PlayonLinux
http://www.playonlinux.com/en/
or WineDoors
http://wddb.wine-doors.org/
in your next great release. I am not too sure if it’s needed but after researching both from the websites looks it will make it easier to install Window programs through Wine.
Could you elaborate more if it’s needed or not needed with Super OS. Thanks again.
hacktolive says:
Probably not by default, but I can add PlayOnLinux to the Super OS repository. This kind of programs is not really needed to run Windows apps (as long as you have wine), but they can make things easier (like automation of software installations)
November 9th, 2009 at 12:02 am
Did you think you’ll add the actual unstable (unstable, but pretty stable and working like a charm for me) version of Google Chrome (4.0.237.0) ?
hacktolive says:
I am considering replacing Opera with Google Chrome, or maybe keep all three browsers (Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome). But regardless of this decision, both Opera and Google Chrome will be on the Super OS repository
November 9th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
hacktolive says:
I would love to make KDE, XFCE and LXDE versions of Super OS, however, as you probably know, I have limited time to dedicate to software development and I have to focus only on one version of Super OS (GNOME). Sorry, but I just don’t have time/resources…
Fortunately I can read (most) spanish words… I hope you understand this, since I can’t write spanish…

hacktolive says:
Thanks a lot! Regarding your question about the bugs… what exactly do you mean? unfortunately I don’t fix bugs in software like Ubuntu or the Linux kernel, etc… since I have limited programming skills…
Yeah, I hope to continue for some time more!
Cheers

Superb Distro. The best in my concern. I have been converting friends and family to Linux with your Super OS. Kudos for the great job. Super OS is the flavor Ubuntu was missing to be Perfect. All our support and gratitude from Puerto Rico. Soon to be land of the…Windows Free!
hacktolive says:

Greetings
If you could please add better support for WMV files, as trying to play WMV files in Media Player has insufficient color & video support.
Also, if you could change the default Terminal profile to black background, white text & transparency, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Panarchy
PS: Here are the commands to better WMV (& other) support in this distribution;
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list \
–output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
sudo apt-get -q update
sudo apt-get –yes -q –allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring
sudo apt-get -q update
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
sudo apt-get install w32codecs
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
hacktolive says:
All the software/codecs you mentioned is already is Super OS 9.04 and 9.10, so I don’t really know how to fix it….
November 27th, 2009 at 9:21 am
what codecs did you install in super os? do you get all those codecs and extras from ubuntu restricted extras?
hacktolive says:
Hi, Super OS 9.10 will include the codecs from “ubuntu-restricted-extras” + w32codecs + amrnb + amrwb (from Medibuntu)
November 27th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Hello hacktolive,
SuperOS has been making lives easier for many Ubuntu fans out there.
Isnt the wait for SuperOS 9.10, going on a bit longer than promised?
To speed up things, I am ready to offer my help.
I am sure, there would be many others who would be willing to offer their support.
Let us get things going man!

Hi thanks for your great work. Is it possible to make superdeb of nvidia drivers?
If possible please include this on your next release + some more superdebs.Its an excellent Idea and in future software installation on a offline linux PC will not be a nightmare. Keep it up with your good work. Thanks a lot again.
Kabir from INDIA……….
hacktolive says:
Unfortunately you have to wait for a new version of SuperDeb Creator to support Ubuntu 9.10. It then should be possible (if the drivers are in the repositories).

Hi all
1st I wanted to try Super OS. Where I can find it for download?
2nd Is there a possibility for widows as well for making it super Windows I mean during the installation process all the essential software along with specified drivers would be installed as well.
I am a system administer learning the techniques to improve my working skills. I want to simplify the installation process by adding the software like MS Office, Power DVD, all the messengers, VOIP dialer, fire fox, Chrome, winrar, 7zip, all the required utilities at once along with the drivers for the certain motherboard & other hardware at once.
Please help me if something like this is possible.
I will really appreciate all the help I can get.
Thanks
Best regards
Athangal

The new Super OS is now available at the official page
Regarding the Windows remastering, I suggest you try nlite or vlite, but I am not familiar with that…

What a great X-Mas present it would be!
I anxiously await the new version.
December 21st, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Just install Super OS as I just found it. I was running Mint to get the additional parts that you added to Ubuntu. I like it!
I noticed that the name change from Super Ubuntu to Super OS, how about going to ‘Ubuntu Plus’? I liked the look and feel of Ubuntu better than Mint. You kept the look and feel of Ubuntu with all the added plusses of Mint. The name would let us now it is in the Ubuntu family and adds all the plusses.
hacktolive says:
You are 100% right about the naming, however, as you probably know, the “Ubuntu” name is a trademark. Canonical said I could use the Ubuntu name IF I only included software in the official Ubuntu repositories… So I decided to change the name and include all the software I want! Of course I could simply not respect Canonical’s trademark; but I respect that company, so I comply with their wishes.

We’re waaaaaiiiiiiiting
It’s the end of the second half of

December 28th, 2009 at 9:28 am
Please please please add the patch for fixing the ADSL Bug on Karmic 10 (I understand that next SuperOS will be based on Koala frame). Fact is they fixed the bug but you have to download it and funny to do that if you have a dsl connection you’ll have to connect form a different place (transport the f… unit there) and set an IP. How stupid they can be?
Please fix the DSL bug.
Thanks again. Regards – a mr nobody from Romania
hacktolive says:
The ISO is already made, so I can’t add more stuff, but… can’t you download the .deb packages to install them offline?
Cheers
